![]() ![]() She wasn't a scientist, and her own experts had warned her that it was physically impossible to build the device she'd envisioned. She's the Bernie Maddoff of the medical testing industry.Unfortunately, Holmes' machine couldn't do what she promised. Last I heard, though, she said "I don't know" 600 times in a deposition. Number one, who was dumb enough to buy that a college drop-out with no degrees knew better how to do advanced medical testing better than doctors and the companies that had set the standards? I'd say Elizabeth Holmes was a conwoman, but I think she really had faith in her ability to deliver. We got to watch as it all fell apart and in the end it asked a lot more questions than it answered. I was totally ready to drink the Kool-Aid, as testing is outrageously expensive and I'm not fan of only two companies being in the game. They really captured the fervor of Theranos and the salesmanship of Elizabeth Holmes. We got to watch as it all fell This was a very engaging documentary. ![]() ![]() ![]() She was/is a marketing genius, but she wanted to be a scientific one. I had the feeling that, at the beginning at least, she probably meant well, but got in over her head. Despite all the harm she did, she does not come across as completely horrible. With her baritone voice, big blue eyes, Steve Jobs black turtlenecks, and self-possessed demeanor, she is an archetypal figure, pursuing her impossible dream to the point of disaster for herself and many others. Blood testing entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes is a perfect subject for him. Gibney is great at looking at the dark side of the American Dreamworld - the egomaniacs, the cracked visionaries, those with an unquenchable lust for power. Despite that, I have not given all of his films high marks, but this one scores in every way. Imo he is the most important documentary filmmaker working today (that I know of at least) and I try to see everything he does. Gibney is great at looking at the dark I am a huge Alex Gibney fan. ![]()
